Medical Billing Specialist
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for collecting, posting and managing account charges to ensure proper reimbursements are made on a timely basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent
• 1 year previous insurance experience
• General office experience

Certificates, Licensure, Registrations
• None required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Basic computer skills
• General medical and coding knowledge preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensures proper and timely payments are made by Medicare/Medicaid and other payors.
• Verifies the correct insurance information is collected for billing purposes.
• Ensures each claim contains the appropriate information required for proper payment. This includes a review of the charges and CPT code.
• Conducts follow-up on any claims returned, denied, or unpaid. Resubmits after requested information is gathered.
• Reviews remittances for correct payment.
• Applies payments from Medicaid and private pay residents to Accounts Receivable for Long Term Care and Assisted Living.

2. Reviews charge sheets and charges submitted by departments to calculate billing for patients.
• Bills procedure codes based on previously entered daily hospital and procedure charges.
• Maintains and updates the billing system.
• Enters and bills appropriate charges for Long Term Care and Assisted Living residents.

3. Provides support in the areas of admissions, patient account services and customer service.
• Admits patients, including patients of visiting specialists.
• Maintains and updates insurance files for patients.
• Provides information to all customers by phone or other communication media.
• Answers telephone calls and related questions in a professional manner.
• Gives directions/information to visitors, patients, residents, sales representatives, etc…

4. Identifies and resolves patient billing problems for Long Term Care and Assisted Living.
• Balances accounts receivable log to cash and AR post.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.
